The Aeturnus Continuum is the expansive fictional universe at the heart of Occulan Studios. Spanning from the mythic Age of Ancients to a far-reaching, interstellar Age of Conflict. It’s a persistent, evolving world designed to support a wide array of stories across time, genre, and medium.

Inspired by the depth of Tolkien’s Middle-earth and the reach of Lucas’s galaxy far, far away, Aeturnus is built to be both vast in scope and distinct in identity. Every era, from the primal lands of Artriu to the fractured futures of Govvg and Torvin, is crafted with meticulous lore, cultural nuance, and narrative purpose.

It’s an ongoing creation; and as development continues, more of the Continuum will emerge here on our site, in our games, through publishing, and beyond.

Species

The Humans of the Aeturnus Continuum are hardy survivors. They developed on Planet Conlann, a world suited to their evolution. And through time — a vast, populous network of Human Colonies would span across the galaxy.

Human

From the ancient planet Selezarr emerged the Saurian — An ancient reptilian species with advanced martial ability; they excelled in space travel with a mystical connection to technology, and a deep history of colonizing local systems.

The Nimj are adept engineers. Tiny in stature, their collective strength is manifest by their interconnected networking Metroform structures. Even as their colonies span across long distances, a neural network — the Xixtis web — links them in spirit.

Nimjian

One of the earliest space-faring species, the Terwihg are practical in nature. And due to their unique evolutionary path, they are highly advanced in technology. Though they are highly organized, they are also known to be spread widely throughout the galaxy.

Terwihgian

Zorrlahstians evolved through the brutality of their native planet, where only the most vicious survived. From within that crucible emerged an apex form, which would go on to spread fear and destruction among the cosmos.

Zorrlahst

The Zepsz evolved through a series of catastrophes, and they have been refined by an insatiable hunger. They travel the cosmos to consume whatever source of energy they can find. And wherever they go, entire lifecycles are transformed to serve their biological needs.

The Age of gods

In this age there was only blackness in an airless void.  The primordial substance of consciousness oscillated without an audience; dimensional entities and spirits germinated in an endless chasm.  And at some point material began to inhabit form — unencumbered by history, the Gods came to be.

The Age of ancients

This is the age of the first stirrings of life.  Planets infused by the originators and the gods of old transformed into the first of the species.  This Age of Ancients saw primitive beings ascend to an apex, as their ancient worlds evolved over time; stories of forgotten wars, magic and mystery played out from within them — and in worlds beyond.

The Age of humanity

The Age of Humanity began a billion years or so after its seeding on Planet Conlann. A line of people would evolve through an archaic stone-age, among many others — up to the age of technology; and eventually, the establishment of the first expansion to their moon, which then led to the following space-ages of human-kind.

The Age of expansion

In this era of exploration, humanity’s colonial civilization would thrive and expand beyond the homeworld, as many planetary settlements were established in rapid succession during this time. An economy based on trade, control, and innovation accelerated progress; but at a deep cost to humanity.

The great breakthrough

Year zero on the timeline of the Aeturnus Continuum — When humanity first formally united in relation to each-other sub-terrestrial-kind; with time, Saurian, Terwihg, and Nimj would unite under the Ritual of Severn — a pact of protection and fellowship between themselves and humanity.

The Age of conflict

Institutional enclaves across the allied planets begin to falter under the pressure of total war — the galaxy was dangerous for those who remained — survivors, soldiers, outcasts, and dreamers; they would be called to rise and fight back to purge their enemies from the stars. The cost of failure — total annihilation.
